Day-by-Day 7-Day Family Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival in Arusha – Welcome to Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), meet your private family safari guide and enjoy a comfortable transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Relax after your journey and prepare for your upcoming safari adventure. In the evening, your guide will provide a safari briefing and introduce the family to Tanzania’s wildlife, culture and what to expect during the journey ahead.

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees and large elephant populations. Enjoy a full-day game drive searching for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and diverse birdlife. A picnic lunch is served inside the park before continuing to the Karatu or Mto wa Mbu area for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Karatu – Ngorongoro Highlands – Central Serengeti
After breakfast, travel through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Serengeti National Park. Continue with an afternoon game drive across the endless plains, searching for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife.

Day 3: Full-Day Central Serengeti Safari
Spend a full day exploring the wildlife-rich Central Serengeti, including the famous Seronera Valley. The area is renowned for excellent predator sightings, including lions, leopards and cheetahs. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives while discovering the incredible landscapes and abundant wildlife of Tanzania’s most famous national park.

Day 4: Second Full-Day Serengeti Wildlife Experience
Enjoy another full day of safari in Central Serengeti, exploring different wildlife areas with your experienced guide. This additional day increases your chances of witnessing unforgettable wildlife encounters, including large predator activity, elephant herds and seasonal Great Migration movements. Optional hot air balloon safari is available at an additional cost.

Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Highlands – Karatu
After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before departing towards the Ngorongoro Highlands. Continue through beautiful landscapes with possible wildlife sightings along the way. Arrive at your lodge in Karatu where you can relax and enjoy optional activities such as a coffee plantation visit, cultural experience or nature walk.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Full-Day Safari
Descend early into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day wildlife adventure. Explore the crater floor in search of the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos and the rare black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the scenic hippo pool before returning to your lodge. Evening optional activities include cultural visits, coffee tours or relaxing at the lodge.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha / Departure

Enjoy a final game drive before continuing to Arusha for hotel drop-off or transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward flight.

Tanzania offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round. The dry season (June to October) is ideal as animals gather near water sources making game viewing easier. The short dry season (January to March) is great for bird watching and the calving season. For the Great Migration river crossings, plan for July to October in Northern Serengeti. We can adjust the number of days, parks visited, accommodation category (budget to luxury), add Zanzibar beach extension, Kilimanjaro trekking, cultural experiences, or any other special request. Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive green), a warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any personal medications. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking confirmation.
We welcome children from 5 years old on standard game drives. Walking safaris or boat safaris require a minimum age of 12. Children under 12 must share a vehicle with parents at all times. Our guides are experienced with children of all ages and know how to keep young travellers engaged and excited throughout.
Safari vehicles are enclosed 4x4s with roof hatches for photography — children remain inside the vehicle at all times during game drives. Accommodation is family-friendly and child-safe. Your guide receives a full family briefing on day one covering safety protocols, what to do at camp, and how to behave around wildlife. Tanzania is a very family-friendly destination with excellent child safety records.
All camps and lodges on our family itineraries offer full children’s menus including familiar foods like pasta, rice, grilled chicken, eggs, and fresh fruit. Packed picnic lunches include sandwiches, fruit, and juice boxes. Please advise of any dietary requirements or allergies when booking and we will ensure all camps are informed in advance.
