Day-by-Day 8-Day Family Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 0: Family Arrival in Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) where you will be welcomed by your private safari guide and transferred to your family-friendly hotel in Arusha. Enjoy a relaxed evening before your safari begins, with time to rest, settle in, and receive a safari briefing from your guide about the exciting days ahead.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Elephant Kingdom
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees, beautiful landscapes, and large elephant herds. Enjoy a full-day family-friendly game drive searching for elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and abundant birdlife. A picnic lunch is enjoyed inside the park before continuing with afternoon wildlife viewing. Later, drive to your lodge or camp in the Tarangire/Karatu area for relaxation and dinner.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park – Forest, Flamingos & Wildlife
After breakfast, explore Lake Manyara National Park, a beautiful park located beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Enjoy a scenic game drive through groundwater forests, open plains, and the lakeshore area. Search for elephants, giraffes, monkeys, hippos, flamingos, buffaloes, and the famous tree-climbing lions. This is a relaxed and rewarding day for families before continuing to the Ngorongoro Highlands area.

Day 3: Karatu to Central Serengeti – Enter the Endless Plains
After breakfast, drive through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Serengeti National Park. Continue with an afternoon game drive in Central Serengeti, an area famous for its large predator population including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and abundant plains wildlife.

Day 4: Full-Day Serengeti Wildlife Experience

Day 5: Second Full-Day Serengeti Safari Adventure

Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater – Big Five Adventure

The crater offers excellent opportunities to see the Big Five, including black rhino, lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and large herds of grazing animals. After the crater tour, continue to Karatu for relaxation. Optional activities such as a coffee experience or cultural visit can be arranged.

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a final game drive or nature experience before transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) for your onward journey.

The short dry season (January to March) is great for bird watching and the calving season. For the Great Migration river crossings, plan for July to October in Northern Serengeti. Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive green), a warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any personal medications. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking confirmation.
We welcome children from 5 years old on standard game drives. Walking safaris or boat safaris require a minimum age of 12. Children under 12 must share a vehicle with parents at all times. Our guides are experienced with children of all ages and know how to keep young travellers engaged and excited throughout.
Safari vehicles are enclosed 4x4s with roof hatches for photography — children remain inside the vehicle at all times during game drives. Accommodation is family-friendly and child-safe. Your guide receives a full family briefing on day one covering safety protocols, what to do at camp, and how to behave around wildlife. Tanzania is a very family-friendly destination with excellent child safety records.
