Giant elephant herds and ancient baobab trees create an iconic landscape that immediately delivers the essence of the African safari. Comfortable picnic lunch in the park. Afternoon game drive before transferring to your lodge in Karatu for dinner, where the cool highland air and comfortable rooms ensure a restful night.

Day 2: Karatu — Central Serengeti National Park

A relaxed breakfast before the scenic drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti. The gradual descent from highland scenery to open savannah is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful drives, with comfort stops along the way. Enter the Serengeti at Naabi Hill Gate and drive to the Seronera Valley. Lodge lunch and midday rest — important for acclimatisation and energy management on longer safari days. Late afternoon comfortable game drive targeting the resident Seronera lion prides. Early dinner.

Day 3: Full Day Central Serengeti — Lions & Leopards

A full day in the Serengeti at a senior-comfortable pace. Your private vehicle gives complete flexibility — rest when you need to, linger at every sighting, and set your own schedule. Morning drive along the Seronera River for lion prides, cheetah families, and leopards. Comfortable lodge lunch with a proper midday rest period. Afternoon drive to the kopjes for spectacular rocky outcrops with resident pride males and rock hyrax. Sundowners from the camp deck as the Serengeti glows in the evening light.

Day 4: Full Day Central Serengeti — Elephant & Plains Game

Another full day in the Serengeti with different routes explored by your expert guide. Morning visit to the Moru Kopjes, Retima Hippo Pool, and the western corridor areas for elephant herds, hippo, crocodile, and giraffe. Comfortable picnic or lodge lunch. Afternoon bird watching and plains game viewing. The pace is entirely yours — the Serengeti’s extraordinary wildlife density means excellent sightings regardless of speed. An optional evening hot-air balloon flight (at extra cost) provides an extraordinary perspective for those who wish it.

Day 5: Serengeti — Ngorongoro Conservation Area

A final comfortable morning game drive in the Serengeti at a relaxed pace. Then begin the scenic return drive east through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing into the cool highland forest. Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater — Big Five at Leisure

A 06:30 departure for a comfortable descent into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. The volcanic caldera holds one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife — lions resting in the morning sun, rare black rhinos grazing in the open grassland, vast buffalo herds, elephant families in the Lerai Forest, and endless zebra and wildebeest. Comfortable lodge picnic at Ngoitoktok Springs. Afternoon drive before ascending the crater wall by 15:00 for afternoon tea and a gentle evening at the lodge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tanzania offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round. The dry season (June to October) is ideal as animals gather near water sources making game viewing easier. The short dry season (January to March) is great for bird watching and the calving season. For the Great Migration river crossings, plan for July to October in Northern Serengeti. Contact us to discuss the best time for your specific interests.

Yes, all our safari itineraries are fully customizable. We can adjust the number of days, parks visited, accommodation category (budget to luxury), add Zanzibar beach extension, Kilimanjaro trekking, cultural experiences, or any other special request. Simply contact us with your preferences and we will design your perfect Tanzania safari.

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive green), a warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any personal medications. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking confirmation.

Arusha has several international-standard clinics and a flying doctor service. Ngorongoro and Serengeti have basic medical posts and radio communication for evacuation. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance including medical evacuation. Bring sufficient personal medications as pharmacies in the parks are limited. Your guide carries a first aid kit and emergency contacts at all times.

Absolutely. Senior safaris are designed to be entirely flexible. Game drives start when you are ready, rest stops happen as frequently as needed, and there is always the option to return to camp early or skip an afternoon drive for rest. Share your preferences at the start and your guide will customise each day accordingly.

Our vehicles are standard 4x4 Land Cruisers which require stepping up approximately 60 cm. If you have limited mobility, please let us know in advance — we can arrange a step stool and a guide who will assist. In the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti, most game viewing is done from the vehicle, so you spend minimal time walking. Hotel selection is also adjusted based on your mobility needs.
