Day-by-Day 6-Day Fly-In Fly-Out Serengeti Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Fly In to Serengeti — Central Seronera
Transfer to Arusha Airport for your scheduled 45–60-minute light aircraft flight over the Rift Valley escarpment, landing on the grass Seronera airstrip in the heart of the Serengeti. Your guide meets you planeside for an immediate afternoon game drive in the Seronera Valley — one of Africa’s richest wildlife corridors. Year-round residents include lion prides, spotted hyenas, large wildebeest herds, and zebra. The Seronera River fever trees are excellent for leopard. Check in at camp as the sun sets over the vast plains.

Day 2: Big Cat Day — Seronera Valley
Rise at 06:00 for a warm breakfast before heading out at first light. The Seronera area has one of the highest lion densities in Africa, with multiple overlapping prides. Track cheetahs hunting on the short-grass plains, and scan every fever tree for the Seronera River leopards. A mid-morning tea break in the bush, then push south toward Moru Kopjes and its resident wildlife. Return for a hot camp lunch and siesta before the late-afternoon golden-hour drive. Day 3: Moru Kopjes & Short-Grass Plains
Today’s dawn drive explores the Moru Kopjes granite formations — home to rock hyrax, klipspringer antelope, and Verreaux’s eagles nesting on the boulders. Continue across the short-grass plains to Gol Kopjes for cheetah sightings and large herds of Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle. The afternoon covers the Maswa Game Reserve boundary area, known for buffalo and roan antelope. Bush picnic lunch on the plains. Return for sundowners and farewell Seronera dinner under the stars.

Day 4: Charter Flight to Northern Serengeti — Migration Country
Board a short charter flight from Seronera to Kogatende airstrip in the far northern Serengeti. This remote sector near the Kenyan border is where the Great Migration’s most dramatic river crossings occur (peak July–October). Even outside crossing season, the northern Serengeti offers exceptional lion, leopard, and elephant sightings. The landscape changes dramatically — rolling hills, dense riverine forest along the Mara River, and vast open grassland dotted with migrating columns. Afternoon game drive and overnight near the Mara River.

Afternoon drive through the Lamai Wedge, famous for its resident pride of lions. Sundowners on a rocky kopje overlooking the Tanzanian plains.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive & Fly Out to Arusha

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive green), a warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any personal medications. Scheduled flights have a strict 15 kg (33 lbs) soft-sided bag limit per person. Charter flights can be more flexible. We recommend a soft duffel bag rather than a hard suitcase. We can arrange advance luggage storage at your Arusha hotel for items not needed on safari.
We typically use Cessna 208 Caravans (10-13 seats) or smaller Cessna 172/182 aircraft (3-4 seats) operated by Coastal Aviation, Auric Air, or similar licensed Tanzanian carriers. Flights are scheduled, meaning you share the aircraft with other passengers, unless you choose a private charter option.
