Description

This 5-day fly-in Serengeti safari eliminates the long road journey to the Serengeti by flying you directly from Arusha to the heart of the park in just 45 minutes. More time in the field, less time on the road - the fundamental advantage of a fly-in Tanzania safari.

Arriving by small aircraft directly at Seronera means you start game driving almost immediately after leaving Arusha. Three full days in the Serengeti followed by a Ngorongoro Crater visit on the return makes this the most time-efficient 5-day Tanzania safari experience available.

Day-by-Day 5-Day Fly-In Serengeti Safari Itinerary
01
Day 1: Arusha — Fly-In to Central Serengeti

Rise early at your Arusha hotel for a pre-flight breakfast before your driver transfers you to Arusha Airport by 07:00. Board your 45–60-minute light aircraft over the Rift Valley escarpment, touching down on Seronera airstrip by mid-morning. Your guide meets you planeside and drives straight into a game drive through the Seronera Valley — one of Africa’s most productive wildlife corridors, offering year-round lion prides, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, and large herds of resident wildebeest and zebra. After a bush lunch at camp, the afternoon drive follows the Seronera River, scanning fever trees for leopards. Check in at your tented camp as the African sun sets.

Day 2: Full Day Big Cat Pursuit — Seronera Valley

Wake at 06:00 for a warm breakfast before heading out at first light when predators are most active. Track lion prides resting on kopje boulders and scan open grasslands for cheetahs using termite mounds as elevated lookout posts. The Seronera River corridor is one of East Africa’s best spots for leopard sightings in yellow-barked fever trees. A mid-morning tea break is taken in the bush before pushing south toward Moru Kopjes, where elephant herds browse dense woodland. Return for lunch and rest (12:30–15:00), then head out for the golden-hour game drive as the savannah turns amber.

Accommodation: Central Serengeti camp  |  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Moru Kopjes, Gol Kopjes & Cheetah Country

Today’s dawn drive explores the spectacular Moru Kopjes granite formations — ancient boulders inhabited by rock hyrax, agama lizards, and nesting Verreaux’s eagles. This is prime leopard territory: scan every horizontal acacia branch carefully. Continue to the open short-grass plains near Gol Kopjes, where cheetah coalitions regularly hunt Thomson’s gazelle in explosive high-speed sprints. Return via the Seronera Valley loop for a packed picnic lunch on the plains. Your guide shares knowledge of migration cycles and ecosystem dynamics. Camp dinner under the stars.

Accommodation: Central Serengeti camp  |  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Northern Serengeti — Migration Grounds (Seasonal)

An early start for the scenic drive north along the Mbalangeti Valley toward the Kogatende area near the Kenyan border. In the dry season (July–October), this is where the Great Wildebeest Migration reaches its dramatic climax at the Mara River crossing — hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra plunge into crocodile-filled waters. Even outside crossing season, the northern Serengeti has outstanding lion prides and large elephant herds. Afternoon game drive before returning to camp or overnight at a northern Serengeti camp.

05
Day 5: Morning Game Drive & Return to Arusha

An early final game drive at sunrise catches the predators returning from overnight hunts — often the best sighting of the entire trip. After a camp brunch, your light aircraft departs Seronera (or an alternate Serengeti airstrip) for the 45-minute return flight to Arusha. Your driver meets you at Arusha Airport for transfer to your hotel or direct onward connection to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). End of safari.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tanzania offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round. The dry season (June to October) is ideal as animals gather near water sources making game viewing easier. The short dry season (January to March) is great for bird watching and the calving season. For the Great Migration river crossings, plan for July to October in Northern Serengeti. Yes, all our safari itineraries are fully customizable. We can adjust the number of days, parks visited, accommodation category (budget to luxury), add Zanzibar beach extension, Kilimanjaro trekking, cultural experiences, or any other special request. Simply contact us with your preferences and we will design your perfect Tanzania safari.

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, olive green), a warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives, comfortable walking shoes, wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera with extra batteries and memory cards, and any personal medications. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking confirmation.

Scheduled flights have a strict 15 kg (33 lbs) soft-sided bag limit per person. Charter flights can be more flexible. We recommend a soft duffel bag rather than a hard suitcase. We can arrange advance luggage storage at your Arusha hotel for items not needed on safari.

We typically use Cessna 208 Caravans (10-13 seats) or smaller Cessna 172/182 aircraft (3-4 seats) operated by Coastal Aviation, Auric Air, or similar licensed Tanzanian carriers. Flights are scheduled, meaning you share the aircraft with other passengers, unless you choose a private charter option.

Light aircraft flights are occasionally delayed by weather or visibility conditions. Our operators prioritize safety above all else. In the rare event of a significant delay, our ground team adjusts the day's itinerary to minimize impact. We recommend travel insurance that covers flight delays for complete peace of mind.
